Another station which featured in both E2K and L2K, London Bridge was not to prove as entertaining as Waterloo. We went to the Shipwrights Arms (hey, they don't bother with an apostrophe, so why should I?) on Tooley Street.
As its name suggests, it's got a ship-based concept going on, which is their inalienable right but why on earth do they have one of those wooden "baby barrier" gates in between one part of the bar and another?
I took a fairly vehement dislike to the pub as soon as I walked in and found the entire place to be immersed in the sound of big-screen TV sports, to the extent that the barman could barely hear us order five pints of Foster's. As a result, I spent most of our visit sitting outside enjoying the, er, pavement culture (which was mainly growing around the wooden feet of the picnic table).
I toyed with the idea of visiting the chippy next door, but decided on balance to hold out for that elusive Burger King.
After I'd gone for a short stroll, the others finally emerged and we headed back to London Bridge station to pick up the bus once more. After all the build-up, I can't remember if we actually made it to Burger King my mind was focused solely on getting the hell away from one of the worst pubs in London.
