BREAKING NEWS: POPUP-FREE GUESTBOOK LAUNCHED
23 September 2002
With great excitement, the London Men's Self-Help Pub Crawl Group today announced the launch of their new popup-free guestbook. "It's not just popup-free," boasted the group's director of communications, "it's completely free from any kind of advertising. Surfers no longer have to be continually plagued by a never-ending series of irritating popups if they want to leave us a never-ending series of irritating messages."
In a rare interview, Robert, who set up the new guestbook, began explaining how he adapted a free Perl script from Matt's Script Archive but was immediately silenced by the other members of the group, who "didn't want to hear his war stories". Struggling to get a word in edgeways, he did however manage to point out that "it's much better than that crappy free messageboard thing provided by HomepageTools". He also claimed that within moments of making the new facility available, about ten messages were already logged, although subsequent investigation revealed that he had actually just copied over existing messages, in a desperate bid to pretend that anyone was visiting the site.
Evem as the group were inviting passing members of public to visit the new guestbook, they were also pleased to announce plans for the next pub crawl. Called "EU02", it will be an attempt to visit 15 drinking establishments with utterly tenuous connections to the 15 member states of the European Union. The group have been playing down suggestions that they are unable to find a pub with the word "Luxembourg" in its name.
